My Year at the Entrepreneurship Innovation Center

The Entrepreneurship Innovation Center (EIC) has been one of the most impactful parts of my undergraduate experience. It is a place where ideas turn into action, where learning happens through real projects, and where students are trusted with responsibility. Working at the EIC has allowed me to grow professionally while gaining clarity about the kind of work and environment I want to be part of in the future.

The EIC brings together students, entrepreneurs, and community members in a shared space built around collaboration. Being part of that ecosystem helped me understand that entrepreneurship is not only about launching businesses, but also about building relationships, sharing knowledge, and learning from experience.

Building My Path Before the EIC

Before joining the EIC, I was already gaining hands-on experience through JVF Solutions, a web design startup I worked with through MassHire, a Massachusetts workforce development program that connects students and recent graduates with paid, real-world learning opportunities. After graduating from MassBay Community College, this experience allowed me to work directly with clients, learn the basics of website management, and understand how small businesses operate.

When I transferred to Framingham State University, I wanted to continue building practical experience alongside my studies. I applied for an internship at the Entrepreneurship Innovation Center, and one advantage I brought with me was that during my year working with JVF Solutions, we had designed and managed the EIC website. This gave me a strong understanding of both the technical platform and the mission of the center, allowing me to contribute immediately.

Stepping Into the Entrepreneurial Community

One of the most valuable aspects of the EIC is its commitment to exposing students to the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem. The center regularly provides opportunities to attend entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership workshops and summits at other universities.

One early experience that stands out was a networking event at Babson College. Another intern and I found ourselves surrounded by graduate students and professionals who seemed much further along in their careers. At first, it was intimidating. To push past that, we set a simple goal for ourselves: to make at least one professional connection during the event. That small challenge changed our mindset, turning nervousness into confidence and helping us realize that growth often starts by stepping into unfamiliar spaces.

Learning Through Real Businesses

Through the EIC, I continued working with JVF Solutions, where my responsibilities expanded significantly. Over time, I became the main point of contact for clients, managing website updates, coordinating revisions, and preparing sites for launch. Before this experience, I had no background in web design. Through consistent practice and trust, I developed both technical skills and confidence in communicating with clients.

At the same time, I worked with Dina Decor Home, a high-end home décor brand serving contemporary designers and B2B retailers. This role introduced me to the creative side of marketing. One meaningful experience was my first professional product photoshoot, working alongside a photographer and stylist. That day gave me a deeper understanding of lighting, composition, teamwork, and how creative ideas are translated into polished brand visuals.

Leadership, Events, and Collaboration

As a senior intern, I helped coordinate seven additional interns while working on the Food Entrepreneurship Summit, one of the EIC’s largest events. This project strengthened my leadership and organizational skills as we worked together to bring the event to life.

My responsibilities included designing the event’s visual identity, creating brochures, website announcements, and invitations, and coordinating with speakers. During the event, I helped introduce presenters, guide attendees, and ensure everything ran smoothly. I was also involved in managing logistics such as food, drinks, room setup, and designated networking areas.

In addition, I helped coordinate and present an Etsy Seminar, where I shared research and personal experience on building an Etsy store. This experience helped me grow as a public speaker and strengthened my confidence in sharing knowledge with others.

Day-to-Day Operations and Community Engagement

Beyond major events, I supported the daily operations of the EIC. This included managing food inventory, coordinating meetings, booking rooms for members and events, and organizing and receiving orders for food or furniture. These responsibilities offered insight into the operational side of running a shared entrepreneurial space.

Member engagement is also a key part of the EIC. The community is collaborative and welcoming, and through monthly member luncheons, entrepreneurs openly share their journeys, business models, and professional experiences. These conversations have been an important learning opportunity and a reminder of the value of shared knowledge.

I also gave tours to prospective members and students, introducing them to the center and encouraging them to see the EIC as a resource for pursuing their entrepreneurial goals. Additionally, I helped coordinate student film projects that used the EIC as a filming location, supporting logistics and communication between students and members.

Strengthening the EIC’s Digital Presence

A significant part of my role focused on enhancing the EIC’s digital presence. I designed, published, and maintained multiple sections of the website, including fundraising and donation pages, event calendars, forms, multilingual language packs, and clear directions with integrated Google Maps. I also worked on the site’s visual layout and ensured it remained responsive and accessible across devices.

In addition, I set up and managed the EIC newsletter, creating a consistent communication channel that keeps members and the community informed about events, opportunities, and updates. These digital tools play an essential role in connecting the EIC with students, entrepreneurs, and community partners.

Looking Ahead

This year at the Entrepreneurship Innovation Center has helped me grow both professionally and personally. The experience gave me clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of direction as I move forward.

Whether my path leads toward marketing and communications, graduate studies, or future work supporting entrepreneurial programs, the foundation built at the EIC will continue to guide me. More than anything, this experience reinforced the value of learning by doing—and the impact of being part of a community that believes in growth.
